transformers or other equipment, especially for the installation and maintenance
of transformers with the main purpose of removing air and moisture from the
inside of the transformer.
Here are the detailed steps, principles and considerations:
1. The purpose of vacuuming
Moisture removal: Transformer insulation materials (paper, cardboard) are
highly absorbed from moisture. In a vacuum, the boiling point of water
decreases, and the water evaporates and is drawn out, ensuring insulation
strength.
Remove air: Eliminate internal air to prevent oxidation of insulating oil in
contact with air and also prevent the formation of bubbles affecting
insulation.
Preparation for oil injection: Injecting insulating oil in a vacuum state
allows the oil to penetrate better into each micropore of the insulation
material, ensuring the insulation effect.
Leak detection: By monitoring the change in vacuum level, it is possible to
determine whether there is a leak point in the transformer fuel tank.
2. Main equipment required
Vacuum pumps: Rotary vane vacuum pumps are recommended because they can achieve
high vacuum levels (usually the ultimate vacuum level of at least 10 Pa or
less). The pump's capacity (pumping rate) is selected based on the transformer
oil volume and tank size.
Vacuum gauge: Used to accurately measure the vacuum inside the tank. Pirani
vacuum gauges or capacitive thin film vacuum gauges are commonly used.
Vacuum tubing: pressure-resistant, airtight metal hose or Teflon tubing.
Vacuum valves: used to connect and cut off pipelines.
Sealing plugs and connections: Used to connect the vacuum valves on the transformer.
